The Fearless Philosophy

You don’t become Fearless by diving into the water headfirst with a sink-or-swim attitude. You ecome Fearless by learning and calmly practicing critical skills until they become part of you. When you are ready, you add more complex skills. When changes come strategically at the right time, the whole process is easier and the results last. A swimmer must be able to swim confidently before they can swim fast to avoid panic. The same applies to weight control. We are taught that “success” means a speedy change on the scale rather than changing years of ingrained behavior that got us into trouble in the first place.

Lasting weight loss is so much more complex than eating less. We all know what needs to happen to lose fat, but a good coach with the right experience and the right system can help you actually do those things consistently. Consistency and support are the keys to success. Fearless Fit Life provides what you need to makes change easier and permanent. Eventually you will be confident that you will never be overweight again.

About Me

Fearless coaching has always been more about teaching skills than running laps. I have taught nervous swimmers to be confident in the open water melee of triathlons (Fearless Swimming), and underdog athletes to use their energy efficiently so they can make time cut offs at Ironman races (Fearless Endurance Triathlon Club).

In my 20 years of coaching, I have seen athletes that struggle with their body composition despite years of endurance work. I was one of them. I lost 65 pounds 20 years ago and I am actually leaner now that I was when I first reached my weight loss goal.

I wrote a book on the subject many years ago (out of print). It had good information but I hadn’t honed my coaching skills yet. Since that time I have done extensive study on change psychology and have earned my Precision Nutrition Coaching Certification. Now retired from Ironman racing, my personal focus is strength training and a deep commitment to coaching.

I’ve learned that weight control isn’t about endurance training, extreme diets or perfect genetics. It is about living a life that supports your goals day after day, year after year. Fearless Fit Life can teach you to how to create that life so you will never have to diet again.
